Children of Sirombu Village rejoiced as they attended the first day back at their newly built school. A total of three schools were built in the Sirombu two jointly built by Zero to One and donor partners Australian Red Cross and the third a joint project with Monaco Asian Society.
The children of Sirombu had the pleasure of Australian Red Cross country manager, Steve Joske, coming in and giving them a lesson on native Australian wildlife. He did this by jumping up and down, impersonating Skippy the Bush Kangaroo. This jumping up and down surely put a smile on the children’s faces as the clapped and cheered and followed along.

Prior to the buildings the children were forced to learn in a make shift tent, which was run down, small and not very conducive to learning. The Zero to One designed schools were built out of solid reinforced concrete, full equipped with tables, chairs and blackboard. The school took a record 4 weeks to complete and hand over ready for learning. To further complete the school project, Zero to One focused on making the schools more fun by installing playgrounds next to the teaching facilities for the kids to play during lunch and after school.

The children of Sirombu now have the foundations for quality learning, in a safe and clean environment. The school has been praised by many key stakeholders in the community, the local village chiefs, the government reconstruction organisation BRR and the people’s of Sirombu. We look forward to seeing the children grow and develop through a better education environment.
