Our Inspiration

On Saturday, 12 October 2002, a bomb exploded in Kuta, Bali, claiming the lives of more than 200 innocent victims from 20 nations. One of those victims was Robert Rex Thwaites. Prior to his death, Robert had put to paper his "LIFE and INVESTMENT PLAN" in which he clearly laid out his path to success, with CHARITY the ultimate goal. He determined that to reach his objective he needed to create a "Foundation to give back to society" In Robert's memory, his family and friends resolved to establish a foundation - to provide assistance and benefits to victims of terrorist attacks and natural disasters.

Victims of terrorism and natural disasters are often left in shock, homeless and with few possessions, a condition that we call Zero: the point at which a survivor has little more than his or her life for which to be thankful. In order to help these people work their way back to a situation of hope and the possibility of self-reliance – our One – efficient, effective, well-organised assistance is necessary. The job is to get victims from Zero to One.

In the months following the Bali bombing, Robert's friends and family discussed how we could best help with this job. It became clear to us that our collective experience in management, housing and logistics would be most effectively used in providing practical help to those in dire material need. The Zero to One Foundation is the result.

Please help us give victims the means to help themselves
